A large barge, loaded with a towering pile of round logs that glow golden in the warm evening light; yellow supports and a blue superstructure are visible on the barge. A tugboat accompanies the barge on calm waters; in the background, a flat, forested coastline stretches beneath the evening sky.

We match cargo with available ship space.

Hansefreight operates in a market where everyone knows each other. Business isn’t built on bids or grand promises—but on direct contact, trust, and a network that has been working for many years. That’s why you won’t find an extensive company profile or maritime tall tales on this website. But you might just find the information that’s relevant to you and your freight shipment.

What We Do.

Mediating.

Hansefreight arranges shipping space for forest products—primarily logs, such as industrial timber and sawlogs.
The company focuses on European shipping routes, particularly the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, as well as adjacent markets.

How We Work.

Hanseatic.

Many of our business relationships with shipping companies have existed for years, some for decades.
We work directly with them—discreetly and with a clear understanding of market mechanisms that do not need to be publicly explained—but that function reliably.

Dynamic markets
require intelligent
solutions.

We operate primarily on European routes:

  • Baltic Sea
  • North Sea
  • Scandinavia
  • Baltic States
  • British Isles/Irish Sea
  • Biscay
  • Mediterranean region
  • Hansefreight acts as a broker between cargo and available tonnage. The company focuses on forest products and related goods, including: industrial wood, lumber, wood chips, recycled
wood products, and other select bulk cargoes.

The larger the market area, the more dynamic and unpredictable market conditions become—which calls for experience, expert advice, and smart solutions. A ship must not only be available; it must also be a good fit for the loading port—in terms of draft, time window, and cargo. And sometimes, quite simply, the weather.

Our strength lies in informing our charterers about potential obstacles and in our expertise in preventive measures.

“Our brokerage services are not based solely on market overviews or position lists, but above all on experience, market knowledge, and a realistic view of what is feasible.” Jan Prösch

    Trust is built on reputation.

In the business relationship between shipowners and charterers, reputation is everything. That is why our work is based less on appearances and more on integrity and actual performance. Hansefreight has been working for many years with a stable network of shipping companies and other industry partners in Europe. Above all else is the unwritten rule of discretion and our commitment to transparency toward our customers.

Jan Prösch is the driving force behind Hansefreight. He has been active in the shipping industry for more than three decades—initially in an operational role in traditional shipbroking, later as a shipowner with his own fleet, and today as an independent chartering broker specializing in forest products. The experience gained from both perspectives—chartering and shipowning—continues to shape his daily work to this day.

When you work with us, you speak directly with the contact person handling your transport—from the first phone call all the way through to the completion of the charter.

Is the cargo ready to go?

    Let’s chat.

In this industry, a single phone call is often more effective than many emails. Hansefreight is directly accessible and responds to inquiries even on short notice.

A large pile of felled tree trunks outdoors, stacked crosswise on top of one another. The trunks have light gray to brownish-spotted bark with branch scars; the cut surfaces reveal light-colored sapwood. In the background, more trunks are stacked in a log pile. In the background is another ship with a white superstructure and a red stripe, as well as a port building under a cloudless blue sky.
